The culmination of hard work and determination paid off for University of Akron junior pole vaulter Shawn Barber (Kingwood, Texas) on Monday, Aug. 24, as he captured the gold medal at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships with a winning jump of 19-4.25 (5.90m).
